Choreographer Yang Nai-Hsuan has seen many couples who wear formal gowns and suits while “tying the knot,” receiving happy blessings from people around them as they entering a new phase in life. Yet, many feel lonely as time goes by, as they continue to fulfill their responsibilities. This is especially true with married women who form the backbone of society. The expectations of the ideal marriage filled with love and life’s harsh realities unsettle both sexes, as personal pain unfolds into open lament. The bittersweet weight of love bears on both male and female shoulders.
